Base64 Encoder & Decoder
Encode text to Base64 or decode Base64 back to text. UTF-8 safe.
Base64 output will appear here...What is Base64?
Base64 is a binary-to-text encoding scheme that represents binary data using 64 printable ASCII characters. It's widely used to transmit data over channels that only support text, such as email (MIME), JSON APIs, and HTML/CSS data URLs.
How to use this tool
- Choose Encode or Decode mode.
- Paste or type your input on the left.
- The result appears on the right in real-time.
- Use Copy to copy the output.
- Use Swap to send the output back to input and flip mode.
Common use cases
- Embedding small images directly in HTML/CSS (data URLs)
- Encoding binary data in JSON payloads
- HTTP Basic Authentication headers
- Email attachments (MIME encoding)
- Storing small binary blobs in text databases
Is Base64 encryption?
No. Base64 is encoding, not encryption. Anyone can decode a Base64 string. Never use it to protect passwords, tokens, or sensitive data. Use proper encryption (AES, etc.) for security.
Privacy
Your data is processed entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded to any server.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this Base64 Encoder/Decoder free?
Yes, completely free. No signup, no limits.
Is my data uploaded to a server?
No. All encoding and decoding happens entirely in your browser. Your data never leaves your device.
What is Base64?
Base64 is a way to represent binary data as ASCII text using 64 characters (A-Z, a-z, 0-9, +, /). It's commonly used to embed images in HTML/CSS, transmit data in JSON, and encode credentials in HTTP headers.
Does Base64 encryption?
No. Base64 is an encoding, not encryption. Anyone can decode it. Never use Base64 to protect sensitive data — use proper encryption instead.
Why does Base64 make data larger?
Base64 uses 4 characters for every 3 bytes of data, so the output is about 33% larger than the original. This is the tradeoff for using only ASCII-safe characters.
Does it support Unicode and emoji?
Yes. This tool uses UTF-8 encoding internally, so Urdu, Arabic, Hindi, emoji, and any Unicode character work correctly.
